In the presence of the party chief, Mr. Bimal Gurung, Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, (GJMM) received another blow in Kalimpong, when a heavy weight leader of the party, from Kalimpong Mr. Nima Tamang’s younger brother, Mr. Passang Tamang resigned from the GJMM party and decided to support and forward the demand raised by the MLA from Kalimpong, Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri to turn and make Kalimpong a new district.

Notably, recently, Kalimpong MLA, Mr. Chettri and Darjeeling MLA, Mr. Trilok Dewan resigned from the GJMM party due to alleged dictatorship acts by the party chief, Mr. Bimal Gurung. And accordingly, such development had brought a major tremor in the party and the situation was yet to be normalized but amidst such unrest in the party, now the GJMM has received another blow, today when the younger brother of the heavy weight leader of the GJMM party resigned and left the GJMM party and decided to independently carry forward the demand to make and turn Kalimpong into a district.

It was learnt that Mr. Nima Tamang is not only the heavy weight leader of the GJMM party from Kalimpong instead he is also the GTA Sabha member from Homes-Bhalukhop constituency. Hence, the resignation of his younger brother, Passang Tamang has been considered as an important political development in the hills.

However, Passang Tamang did not hold any major post in the GJMM party and he was just a simple member of the party but even then today’s development has been considered as an important one. Meanwhile, with his several followers and supporters, Passang Tamang came to the streets in support of a separate district status for Kalimpong. The supporters of Mr. Tamang shouted slogans in favor of Kalimpong and its district demand as well as in favor of Mr. Passang Tamang.

Through a press conference in Kalimpong, this afternoon, he announced his resignation from the GJMM party. Meanwhile, he said that there are several reasons to resign from the party but the main reason is that his principles did not match with the GJMM party. He also informed that presently he is not going to join any party, instead for the interest of Kalimpong populace he will execute all his works independently as a common man.

Regarding, Mr. Harka Bahadur Chettri, he revealed that Mr. Chettri has done a tremendous job. He further added that earlier too, a few leadership had raised the issue of ‘Kalimpong district’ but it is Mr. Chettri who has focused and emphasized such issue and brought it to the limelight. Hence, considering all these things he said that he was impressed by Mr. Chettri and accordingly he has decided to join and extend his support to such movement as he felt that he has to do something for Kalimpong and its people.

Regarding his brother, he said that his brother has his own political career and identity and accordingly he has his own one. Hence, whatever his brother thinks he will do and whatever he thinks he will do from his side for Kalimpong.
