Hill Panchayat Election :Krishak Kalyan Sangathan warns of showing empty vessel to CM

Kalimpong,12th oct

For the immediate revival of the Panchayati system or Panchayat election in the Darjeeling hills, the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan, , accelerated their activities and accordinglythey have also given an ultimatum to the state CM for a positive announcement on the matter.
Through a press conference in Kalimpong today, the general secretary of the sangathan, Mr. Bishnu Chettri said that it is really unfortunate that a constitutional system i.e Panchayati system is not being implemented properly for that past 10 to 12 years in Darjeeling hills. Hence, protesting against the role of the government and local public representative, like MLAs, MPs and even the role of the CM on the said matter as well as for the immediate implementation of the panchayat system or panchayat election, recently, he has personally filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Kolkata High Court.
Mr. Chettri further said that the state chief minister, Mamta Banerjee has visited Darjeeling hills several times and during her visits, she worked and announced different developmental programs on different aspects to turn Darjeeling hills into Switzerland but it is really surprising that she has always kept herself  at a distance on the matter of a constitutionally  important matter like the PanchayatiRaj.. Hence, they have been appealing to the CM to do something withina month on the matter, otherwise, after one month, when she visitsDarjeeling again, then their Sangathan’s thousand of women members will show empty utensils to her as a mark of protest.
He further added that more surprisingly the public representatives from Darjeeling hills, whether MLAs or MPs has not raised their voice on this constitutional matter, from which the hills people are being deprived since the past 10 to 12 years. Hence, their organization has decided to press them on the matter and accordingly, they have been giving 15 days time to the MLAs and MPs of Darjeeling hills to do something positive regarding the immediate panchayat election in the hills otherwise, they will stage different protest programs and even burn hills MLAs and MPs in effigies.
He said that due to lack of panchayat election, the village people have been facing different problems in their daily life, which is in reality is their constitutional rights. Panchayat election in Darjeeling hills is due for more than past one decade. As per him, in the present political scenario of Darjeeling hills, a two-tier panchayat election can be executed, currently.

The meeting of the KKS today discussed about the program and later tied a black cloth around their arm to protest against the system
