A massive landslide at Rompu votebir about 35 km away from Kalimpong today killed one driver and left other 5 injured.

The incident happened early this morning when about 50 by 10 m of boulder at bhotebhir came down burying 3 truck , 1 tata safari and one 300 excavator machine where a driver of a truck named mukesh chettri(32) of Baikantipur Siliguri died on the spot .

Due to the slide Sikkim was cut off from rest of India.

Darjeeling DM Anurag Srivastaw today briefing about the incident said that the incident said'  A landslide took place on NH10 at Bhotebir on Rongpu Sikkim Border where Gref was widening the road at about 5 am this morning. He confirmed one dead and informed that the injured have been rushed to Sikkim for further treatment. rescue work is carried by Gref and Police.

Meanwhile SP Darjeeling Amit P Jawalgi informed that total 5 passenger were rescued from the debris. He said that 3 truck , 1 safari and one excavator have been buried under the debris

 The dead body of Mukesh Chhetri the driver of eicher vehicle which was going towards Sikkim was later after recovery was sent to Kalimpong for autopsy.

MLA Kalimpong, Gref Brigerdiar , Commander , ASP HQ Darjeeling visited the incident site.

The effort of road clearance has been kept in top priority by Gref . The vehicle boarding toward Sikkim to Siliguri and Siliguri to Sikkim was seen running via Munsong in Kalimpong.
