Former Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) member and now an independent legislator from Kalimpong Harka Bahadur Chettri today launched his party  Jan Andolan Party (JAP) amidst a gathering of more than 10 thousand mass at Kalimpong Mela Ground .

 Dr Chettri has been made the president of JAP, while Professor MP Lama has been made the Chairman of bureau and Anmol Prasad and Amar Lama as bureau member. Nayan Pradhan the coordinator of District Demand Committee has been appointed as secretary of the Party.

The flag along with Party manifesto too has launched today on this occasion.

B R Chettri who presided over the program fist announced the name of party portfolio among loud cheer while Dr Chhhetri announced the name of Party .

He said this was demand of Time.Early party wrote to work but only in paper but we will work of masses as we have kept the party name as Jan Andolan Party.

At present our manifesto will focus in our area but in future we will put national and international matter along with us he added.

The Manifesto read 'Our region has been in a political eclipse that has lasted for over thirty years. Its shadow threatens to push our people into deeper and deeper backwardness by perpetuating a corrupt, feudal and fascist political order that collaborates with the Union and the State in keeping us in a perpetual state of marginalization. The compressor political culture of our region has thus fostered and encouraged a hostile and suspicious perception of our people and jeopardized its aspirations toward attaining full self-governance. The region’s economic, social, linguistic and cultural differences with the rest of the State have also pointed to the lack and absence of more contemporary political discourse and policy interventions suited to the needs of the hour'


The JANA ANDOLAN Party plans to nurture and build confidence in all communities living in this region. It will strive to bring newer opportunities and enlarge development horizons. It will connect the region and its people with the, regional, national and global world. It will triumph by attaining the seemingly insurmountable goal of a Separate State. As the time horizon is short, speed, solidarity and clear thinking are the need of the hour.

    In this manner JANA ANDOLAN Party is going to sound a different note in the political and social milieu of the region: by being unique, by being powerful and by being people-and-youth oriented. Against this backdrop, the JANA ANDOLAN Party pledges to its people a strong will, conviction and commitment and ability to fulfill the same.The Party shall promote democracy, democratic practices and democratic institutions at each and every level of functioning.

Dr Chettri said the Party shall invest in collective leadership, accountability and responsibility in the Party’s basic structure and day-to-day functions.The Party shall foster loyalty to the nation and the conservation of national, local and traditional resources.The Party stands committed to zero corruption and absolute cleanliness in every aspect of public life.The Party shall foster cordial working relationships with the Union and State in order to secure to its people's their rights.

He added its not the party who have save the demand of Gorkhaland but the Gorkhaland is the one who have till now save the party.

Meanwhile Dr M P Lama today addressing told briefly about the party manifesto and plans.
