Bal Suraksha Abhiyan a NGO working against Child labour and other social evils in the society has from today kick off a campaign named 'Make spaces safe for women and Children’. The campaign was launched by Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Amit P Jawalgi in presence of ASP Kalimpong Bholanath Pandey, BSA Director Sister Subeshna Thapa and other guest at a program held in Town Hall Kalimpong.

Addressing the program Sister Subeshna Thapa told in this modern era, every child and woman deserves to live in a safe and secure environment where they are free from violence, abuse and neglect. It is their basic need to have a caring and supportive atmosphere in their lives and to have people around who believe in them so that they can learn to believe in themselves.

She said BSA who is working from last 10 year experienced that Kalimpong is one such place where the innocent can be tricked easily and end up becoming victims of violence and fraud. The major reason for this being lack of awareness among the masses which leads to exploitation of children as well as women.

Seeing this , Bal Suraksha Abhiyan Trust from today taken this initiative to address the ever growing problem through the campaign titled -‘Make Spaces Safe for Women and Children’.

Thapa said 'Creating Spaces safe is a concept that focuses primarily on protection of the Women and Children wherein injustice and oppression are not tolerated. The emphasis is on creating environments where safety of every Child and Woman are given the utmost priority'. To create safe spaces for our society we would require the support and understanding of every community member she appealed

As a part of the campaign, BSA will hold active campaigns to create awareness since Kalimpong still lacks safe spaces for Women and Children. Ignorance among the common people has led to rise in exploitation of women and children despite various helpline and help desk being established for any such emergencies. Based on the various complaints received on a regular basis, BSA has assumed that many people are still unaware about such services provided to them. Therefore, BSA with an aim to reach the masses has planned on distribution of Child, Women and Police Helpline numbers in every Motor Stand, Taxi, Hotel, Health Centre, villages as well as Police Check posts where mass comes in general in Kalimpong. The objective is to provide an easy access to the helpline numbers during the time of need.

To make this campaign stronger and make every nook and cranny of Kalimpong , BSA will work closely in collaboration with the Police Department, Chaalak Mahasangh of Kalimpong& Hotel Associations.

A car/motorcycle rally was organized today in order to kick-start the campaign, SP and other guest flagged off the rally along with the Campaign.

Darjeeling SP Jawalgi addressing said that society along with NGO plays a vital role curbing the social evil.
