Kalimpong hopeful about CM’s tour

The people of Kalimpong are expecting much on the development front in the Hills following the four-day joint visit of president Pranab Mukherjee and chief minister Mamata Banerjee .

The people of Kalimpong who had been proposing for a separate district bifurcating Darjeeling district, during the tenure of Mamata Banerjee’s government,are now expecting that the state should continue the process to declare a separate district as soon as possible.

The people of Kalimpong feel that the ruling party Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha in the Hills should maintain a cordial relation with Mamata Banerjee led state government for execution of administrative reforms for creation of a separate district of Kalimpong.

Manish Tripati a teacher said ,“We welcome the President and also chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Darjeeling.” Meanwhile, thanking chief minister Mamata Banerjee for creating Kalimpong district he added that the state should resolve the drinking water crisis, education and mainly the problems of road in Kalimpong.

An educated youth but a driver by profession pointed out, “Our area is facing massive unemployment problem. The authority in Hills Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and state government should have maintained a cordial and good relation in the interests of the mass in Kalimpong as well as in the Hills.

”On the other hand, the celebration of 202nd birth anniversary of Aadikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, where both the President and chief minister will attend the programme, has cropped up controversy and criticism from the side of the Nepali writers’ community.

Manoj Bogati ,2012 Yuwa Sahitya Academy winner claimed:“ The celebration is just a drama, which is observed by CM every year. Mr Bogati said, “The state is doing nothing for the upliftment of the writers, authors, to preserve their works or help them in publications.”
