Gorkhaland, an earning ground for the regional parties and its politicians, alleges Pradhan

KALIMPONG, May 22:
DILIP PRADHAN |
“India
is a democratic country and any party can establish themselves in any part of
the country”, stated that Darjeeling Congress District Secretary, Dilip Pradhan
while speaking on the context of Trinamool Congress to hold a meeting in the
hills soon. Countering the statement of the MLA, of a national party not
understanding the issues of the region, Pradhan added that since 1907 various
regional parties have been demanding for Gorkhaland, this is the main reason
for the demand not being fulfilled. The people of Darjeeling have believed in
these regional parties and hence, till date nothing has been conceived. The
public should for once believe in the national party then they can see whether
the party can fulfill their demands or not, claimed Pradhan.
Further,
he asserted that the regional issues are being suppressed for they are not
being getting help from the national party. Many regional party members became
politicians, MLAs and MPs but the issues regarding the hills still remain
stagnant. The Gorkhaland issues have merely become an earning ground for the
regional parties and its politicians. Politicians are benefitting whereas the
public are suffering, alleged the Secretary.
Darjeeling
Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) was the outcome of 1986 agitation and in recent
times it is the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). Keeping the
Gorkhaland issue in the forefront the MLAs and MPs were successful in winning
votes at large, but till date what have they done for Gorkhaland? Pradhan
questioned. The Congress during 1986 had supported Gorkhaland but when it did
not receive a green signal in the national level, and then the Congress caught
hold of the UT issue. Lastly, the Secretary said that if only once the people
support the national party then all their demands regarding Gorkhaland will
definitely get fulfilled.
