An
imperative meeting was held today at Rambi Police Post between the Police
Officials, Drivers’ Association, Vehicle Owners’ Association, representatives
of the Rafting Team, residents of the National Highway (NH) 31A, Kurseong and
Kalimpong Police Station In charge, Police Superintendents of Kalimpong and
GREF. The main topics of the meeting were regarding the issues faced during the
monsoons such as landslide, traffic, rash driving etc. on the NH 31A along
Baghpool till Rangpo, West Bengal.
The
Kalimpong Police appreciated the selfless service delivered by the Teesta-
Rangeet Rafting Welfare and Rescue Group free of charge during the road
mishaps. This is for the first time that any Department has recognized their
service and thanked them for it. Sukhbir Tamang from the Rafting Team along
with other representatives seemed to be pleased by the Department’s act of
gratitude.
Informing
about the meeting the Kalimpong Superintendent, S Lepcha said that under the
leadership of the Police Posts situated along the NH 31A a Rescue Team will be
formed comprising of the locals and members from the Rafting Team in order to
handle the time of emergency. An awareness campaign will also be held to
educate the people about rash driving during which pamphlets will be
distributed.
The
Police Department further appealed the GREF to place a scroll at Baghpool and
Teesta to keep the public updated about the closed roads during the monsoons.
It is expected that the disturbance caused within the public due to sudden road
blocks during the monsoons will be lessened after the scroll is placed. All the
Police Post In charges situated along the NH 31A were present during the meet
which was coordinated by the Rangpo Police Station OC Mitra Rai.
