Regarded as the Ganges of the hills during 1980s, the river teesta if seen geographically is one of the most dangerous rivers of thecountry. Bedded alongside the national highway31 (a) the river has witnessed numerous natural calamities and road mishaps, sometimes engulfing the fateful passengers, people in its cradle. During such instances the river rafting apart from being a profession has proved to be a great help for humanity. The immense contribution to mankind and humanity the men’s and youth of the teesta river rafting rescue group is incomparable and priceless. The team has always lent their support free of cost during fateful incidents. This group has not onlyhelped during time of urgency in the state and its neighbouring Sikkim. But
has also rescued numerous people trapped during the massive flood at river kosi in Bihar in 2008.unfortunately 4 membersof one of the team also lost their lives during a rescue operation in 2009 after which the district administration had put the river rafting to a halt for many months. the rescue team coordinator sukbhir tamang says that if any incident happen in highway then our rescue team is fore mostly remembered during such incidents either the is approached by the police or public or administration. Sometimes the team themselves start off rescue operation if by chance they are the first to know about the incident. But for their uncountable heroic deeds till date no one has ever concentrated on their wellness and modernization though they have not been felicitated by the state government they have the gratitude for the relief work done in Bihar.The team is dismayed over the fact that the Sikkim state government has not even thanked once for their selfless service, as most of the vehicle which falls prey to the road mishaps are from Sikkim. The river rafting as an adventurous sport after its privatization in the year 1991 has been able to become an element for employment too as it has proved to be a great financial help to the youths during tourist seasons.Tags: FEATURE NEWS
