GRC demands, Sikkim- Darjeeling merger

Since
its inception in 2004 for the unification of the Sikkim Darjeeling the real
owner of the Hills and the Dooars region is Sikkim and it has never be the part
of the West Bengal, said the President of Gorkha Rashtriya Congress (GRC), Nima
Lama.
Highlighting
the historical documents Lama said that the Indian Government does not have the
strong confirmation that when the areas came under the India. The party has
been trying to educate the Minister of both the Central and that of Sikkim on
the issue through the historical documents, said Lama.
GRC
Convener, Subodh Pakhrin saying that the people of Sikkim are for the Sikkim-
Darjeeling inclusion added that if the Central Government wishes than it can
give a green signal to this.
Further,
the GRC President mentioning that GTA is temporary added that until and unless
the hill area is not separated then Darjeeling can never be merged with Sikkim.
He also notified that soon they will be meeting with the opposition party
leaders of Sikkim regarding the same.
The
GRC Women Branch politician, Geeta Subba said that if the Central Government is
not in favour of a separate State, then the only option for getting separated
from the present State is to merge with Sikkim. Lastly, GRC Advisor, Bharat
Dong notified that the Darjeeling area belonged to Sikkim and Bhutan, and only
if the British before leaving the country could have handed back the area to
its owners the this day would not have arrived.
