GTA Nomination closes, 12 out of 45 declared uncontested

The last date of the
nomination proceeding for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) today
saw 9 candidates of the Trinamool Congress followed by a single Independent
candidate at Kalimpong amid tight security.
Taking into account the
Kurseong incident which occurred on Saturday, all the Trinamool candidates were
brought to Kalimpong from Siliguri yesterday night under well-built security.
Mahendra Gajmer, Gautam Kalikotey, Suk Bahadur Subba, CP Sharma, Chewang Bhutia,
Bruno Lepcha, Michael Ligdamo, Prem Bahadur Adhikari, Urgen Sherpa and Pema
Dorjee Moktan filed their nomination today. The Trinamool team was also
escorted till Siliguri added a police source. Similarly Shiwani Yorsa Pradhan
of the Rashtriya Jan Adhikar Suraksha Party was also provided with tight
security by the police forces.
Now it has been cleared
that the election will be held only in the 10 constituencies out of 13 under
Kalimpong Sub Division. Earlier the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha has placed their 13
candidates from which Nima Tamang form the 34 No Homes Bhalukhop, Col Ramesh
Alley from the 36 No Dungra-Pudung and Gopal Ruchal from 39 No Rangpo Mansoong has
been declared uncontested.
The tally of the nomination
stands GJM 13, TMC 10 and 1 each of the CPI(M), Independent and from the
Rashtriya Jan Adhikar Suraksha Party in Kalimpong.
Similarly in Darjeeling
nominations, the remaining 1 from the GJM, 4 from the Trinamool Congress, 2
from the Community Party of India (M) and 2 Independent candidates was witnessed.
The
GJM has placed its candidates in all the 22 constituencies under Darjeeling Sub
Division, followed by
the CPI (M) with 12, the TMC with 4 and 2 of the Independent.
The above has resulted 9
uncontested candidates of the GJM under Darjeeling Sub Division that of Urmila
Rumba from Darjeeling Sadar 2 constituency, Jyoti Rai from Nagari Dhajia
constituency, Sanjay Rai (Thulung) from Takdha Glenmon constituency, Pradeep
Pradhan from Phoopsering Pandam constituency, DB Gurung from Leabong Badamtam constituency,
Mahendra Pradhan from Sonada Pachyang constituency, Shanti Chettri from
Darjeeling Sadar 3 constituency, Ramesh Lama from Taklin Peshok constituency
and Ratan Thapa from Mangpoo Labda constituency.
On the other hand under the
Kurseong Sub Division not a single candidate is reported to be uncontested.
Among the 10 constituencies the GJM has placed there all in 10, the TMC in 5
and 43 Independent candidates have filed their nominations.
The GTA
combining the three Sub Division have altogether 45 constituencies.
