GTA- TMC to clash for 4 seats in Darjeeling and 9 in Kalimpong

KALIMPONG, July 12:
The Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA)
elections slated on July 29, 2012 will be held for 4 seats under Darjeeling Sub
Division and 9 seats under the Kalimpong Sub Division. The election symbols for
the different parties and the winning certificates for the uncontested
candidates were dispersed today for the upcoming elections at the District
Magistrate Office marking the closure of the nomination proceedings for elections
today. ‘Sun’ shall symbolize the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) whereas the usual
‘Flower and Grass’ symbol shall represent the TMC.
In the 22 Constituencies under the
Darjeeling Sub Division, 4 constituencies shall witness the clash between the GJM
and the TMC. The GJM candidate, Taranga Pandit will be taking on TMC candidate,
Gopal Singh Chettri for Darjeeling 4 Constituency, followed by GJM candidate,
PT Ola against TMC candidate, Milan Dukpa for Ghoom Jorebanglow Constituency, GJM
candidate, Tilakchand Roka against TMC candidate, Manjit Subba for Chungthung
Marybong Tamsang Constituency and GJM’s Dipen Malay against TMC’s Manbhadur
Mukhia for Pokhriabong Chamung Constituency.
Meanwhile all the 18 uncontested GJM
candidates were given the winning certificates by the Election Returning
Officer, Samden Dukpa at the DM Office Conference Hall. The day marked the
mammoth participation of the GJM supporters who thoroughly enjoyed every
announcement of their uncontested candidates. The 18 GJM uncontested includes GJM
Chief, Bimal Gurung from Takbar Constituency, Naari Morcha President, Asha
Gurung from Darjeeling Sadar 1 Constituency, Prakash Gurung from Rimbick
Lodhoma Constituency, Satish Pokhrel from Relling Kaijalia Constituency,
Kaziman Luhagan from Pul Bijanbari Goke Constituency, Binay Tamang from
Bloomfield Rishihat Constituency,Deo Prakash Pradhan from Leabong Badamtam
Constituency, Pradip Pradhan from Phoobsering Pandam Constituency, Urmila Rumba
from Darjeeling Sadar 2 Constituency, Shanti Chettri from Darjeeling Sadar 3
Constituency, Uday Dewan from Sukhia Manaybhanjyang Constituency, Jyoti Kumar
Rai from Nagari Dhajia Constituency, Rabindra Lama from Rungbull Dhotria
Constituency, Mahendra Pradhan from Sonada Pacheyang Constituency, Sanjay Thulung
from Takdah Glenburn Constituency, Ramesh Lama from Taklin Peshok Constituency,
Narbu G Lama from Takdah Teesta valley Constituency and Ratan Thapa from
Mungpoo Labdah Constituency.
Likewise, in Kalimpong Sub Division, the
GTA election will be contested for 9 seat as no candidates have been witnessed
withdrawing their nominations. The Kalimpong Sub Divisional Officer also the
Election Officer, LN Sherpa today informed that a total of 19 candidates shall battle
for the 9 seats where the GJM have 9, TMC 9 and 1 Independent candidate.
The constituencies where the election will
be held are the 33 No Chibo Tashiding, 37 No Algarah Dalapchand, 38 No Lava
Lingsey, 40 No Pedok, 41 No Nimbong Gitabling, 42 No Rally Samther, 43 No
Gorubathan, 44 No Samsing Kumai and 45 No Rogo Jalanka- Todey. The candidates
of the GJM, TMC and the Independents were provided with the identity cards and
election symbols.
Similarly, the 4 uncontested namely, Nima
Tamang from the 34 No Homes Bhalkhop, Sunil Pradhan from the 35 No Bhog-Durpin,
Col Ramesh Alley from the 36 No Dungra Puduk and Gopal Ruchal from the 39 No
Rangpo Munsung Constituency were also provided with the winning certificate by
the SDO.
Likewise in 10 constituencies under Kurseong
Sub Division, 6 declared unopposed which
includes Roshan Giri from Sittong Latpanchar , Anush Thapa from Tung St Mary’s
constituency, Yogendra Rai from Kurseong town Doerali constituency, Anit Thapa
from Kurseong Giddapahar constituency, Pranay Thapa from Pankhabari Ambootia
Longview constituency and Prabha Chettri from Mahanadi Tindharia constituency.
