Sanchabir Subba files nomination as independent on public demand
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong,
July 06:
Despite
of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) Chief, Bimal Gurung cautioning earlier,
that any Morcha cadre who proposes his/ her name as an independent candidate
shall be shunned by the Morcha, the Nimbong- Parbingtar Zone Morcha President,
Sanchabir Subba today submitted his candidature form amidst his group of
supporters for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) elections.
Within
24hours of the announcement of the GJM candidates by the Morcha Chief at
Darjeeling, Subba who put forward his name today said that he has done this
under the pressure of the public. The public of Nimbong- Gitabling has insisted
that the candidate should be from their own area, he added. It may be noted
that Prof Kalyan Dewan’s name has already been proposed yesterday for Nimbong-
Gitabling under, 41 No Constituency.
Subba
after filing the nominations clarified, that he is not against the candidate
proposed by the Morcha Chief. But the public are complaining that the candidate
reside 60 kms away from the said area and hence, it will be inconvenient for
them to visit him often with each and every of their issues. “I have taken this
decision as per the feelings and wishes of the public and we, as an independent
party under the aegis of the GJM and its President are taking this step to take
care of the public’s demands keeping in mind their feelings”, he asserted. “The
oppositions should not think my independent candidature otherwise, for we are
not against GJM”, cleared Subba.
After
being the public’s choice, Subba now remains hopeful of winning the elections
by 100%. He also underlined that he will not be withdrawing his name because he
had already informed the GJM, Vice President cum Zone’s Convener regarding the
same.
Lastly,
when asked about the actions to be taken against him for going against the
Morcha’s orders, he said, “whatever has to happen will be seen in the coming
days, I do not want to comment on this right now”.
