UGRF and GRNM not to contest GTA elections
Mukesh Sharma
Kalimpong, July 04:
The Gorkhaland Rajya Nirman
Morcha (GRNM) has decided not to contest the Gorkha Territorial Administration
(GTA) elections scheduled on July 29, 2012. Interacting with the reporters the
GNRM President, Dawa Pakhrin today said that the party’s ultimate aim is a separate
State, Gorkhaland and hence it shall not accept any of the optional systems of
the State Government. He also informed that the party resigned from the Council
in 2005 for the sake of Gorkhaland.
Further, he notified that along
with them the GJM Chief, Bimal Gurung too had resigned from the Council, but
later he joined back, which only seemed like putting the old wine in the same
bottle. “The GTA is just a painkiller for the hills by the State and the Centre
Government” said Pakhrin. Now the GRNM President remains hopeful that their
ally Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) will also clear their stand on the GTA
elections at the earliest.
The GRNM Central Committee
meeting which was held today also replaced the General Secretary, Tika Khati
with John Poudyal. Informing on the same Pakhrin said that Khati earlier along
with the Citizen Forum had met the State Government and had hinted to join the
Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Also on the other hand the United
Gorkha Revolutionary Front (UGRF) Chief, Ajay Dahal today announced the party’s
non participation in the coming election. In fact the UGRF has totally
condemned the idea of GTA. The members of the newly formed organisation which was
the offshoot of the UGRF named New Struggle Coordination Committee (NSCC) joined
the TMC recently. Dahal said that after the TMC came to the hills the political
environment has been cloudy.
When asked about the rumors about
him joining TMC, he clarified that he shall never join the party (TMC) which is
anti- Gorkhaland. Commenting on the involvement of the other parties in the GTA
elections, Dahal said that those parties are not in support of a separate
State.
The TMC on the other hand is
designed to create rift between the hills and the Centre, said Dahal. The West
Bengal which is administered by the TMC and the hills by the GJM does not bear
any divergence.
Lastly, Dahal comparing the
earlier rule of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) by the GNLF, he said
that the GJM too are moving in the same path. It is of no doubt that the GJM
shall win the elections but the question lies that what will be their future
programmes. “The GJM will either run GTA or agitate for Gorkhaland”, he
concluded.
