The preparations for
the 66th Independence Day celebrations are at full swing at Mela
Ground, Kalimpong. The initial celebrations have already commenced with the
football matches being played, however, the decoration work of the ground
started from today onwards. Even all the Schools of Kalimpong are beefing up
for the celebrations and the students are most of the time seen rehearsing for
the I- Day parade and other cultural programmes at their respective School
grounds. The Band Groups of various Schools are also seen practicing hard.
Every year, the I-Day
is celebrated with full fervor in Kalimpong during which 25- 30 Schools from
the town partake in the celebrations. During 15th August, Kalimpong
has become a centre of attraction for the past 60- 65 years for the people of
Darjeeling and Sikkim.
