Kalimpong, January 24:
At this hour of insurgency in the hills regarding Gorkhaland, the Gorkha Janmukti Naari Morcha (GJNM) Central Committee President, Asha Gurung has claimed that she can transform into another ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ if the situation demands.
Addressing a mammoth gathering today at Mela Ground, Kalimpong, the Naari Morcha Head insisted that Gorkhaland should be formed along with Telangana. The centre keeping in mind the dire consequences of the GJM’s 2nd phase of agitation, if Gorkhaland is not granted, should consider the demand at the soonest, she said.
“We shall prolong the agitation until our demand is fulfilled. If not, the situation here will not be good”, she warned.
The Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri on his part said that the oppositions in the Hills time and again have been skeptical towards GJM.
“They have tried their best to defame us. But the opposition instead of simply talking should come forward and do something constructive for the Hills”, he said.
Dr Chettri added that they are ever ready to come into action if the GJM Chief, Bimal Gurung calls upon them to do something for Gorkhaland.
The GJM Central Committee member Bijay Sundas stated that the Hills remain segregated even during the eve of Republic Day. The attitude of the centre and the state towards Gorkhaland has been harsh, he said and added that this time nobody in the Hills should fight each other; rather everybody should pressurize the centre united.
GJM’s Samuel Gurung and Sawan Rai also addressed the gathering.
All the shops at the Kalimpong town remained closed today during the meeting. The GTA Sabhasads, Councilors, members of the GJM frontal organization and others were also present during the meeting, which was organized by the GJM Kalimpong Sub Divisional Committee under the chairmanship of GTA Deputy Chief Col Ramesh Allay.
