Kirati Khambu Rai community demands tribal status

The Kirati Khambu Rai community today took out mammoth rally in Kalimpong town to mark their new year (Yalambar Sawat 5073). The rally started from the Mela ground, encircled the town and ended at the Mela ground. The rally demanded tribal status under Article 366(24) and 372 of the Indian Constitution with placards in the hands and shouting slogans. The rally was organized by the Kirati Khambu Rai Cultural Organisation, Kalimpong.
The day started with offering of prayers and with different colorful cultural programmes. The Secretary of the Organisation Arun Rai said that the community has fulfilled all the essential components to become as tribal. Rai have their own exquisite culture and traditions he added.
The day also had the presence of the representatives from different areas.
