The onset of monsoon is being witnessed by the hills already in the month of March. Heavy downpour hovered over Kalimpong few days ago. Today also heavy rainfall was recorded in all different areas of Kalimpong, which further caused damage to agriculture. Also the sewage lines were blocked and overflowing at RC Mantri Road and other places. Some vehicles were trapped in middle of the road which needed much manpower to get removed. Apart from these, the telephone lines and electricity supply was also hindered to a great extent. Largely affected were the students who had to battle the sudden heavy shower after school to reach their homes. It is being opined that Kalimpong received approximately 30-35 mm of rainfall today. The rain also brought cold chills along with it.
