Kalimpong, March 19:
“The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is greatly involved in deploying the CRPF in the hills”, alleged the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) President, Bimal Gurung. While addressing a constituency level meet at Pedong, Kalimpong, today. Gurung said that the TMC is worse than the Left Front, the former government. As per Gurung, the TMC is involved into 3rd class politics and they are the main source for creating disturbing situation in the hills.
“The hills are not in a condition where CRPF is needed. It is the state government that has created such situations by bringing in the forces here”, he alleged.
Speaking about the Gorkhaland demand, Gurung said that if the central government allows the formation of a separate state, then the state government can do nothing.
“It all depends upon the decision of the centre. Thus, Mamata Banerjee’s Banga Bhang Hobena statement will not work wonders if the centre gives Gorkhaland a green signal”, said the Morcha Chief.
Apart from leveling allegations against the state government, Gurung also focused on the developmental activities.
Exampling, Sikkim, Gurung said only within a short span the neighboring state has developed immensely.
“We need to learn from Sikkim and work collaboratively towards developing the hills”, he said.
Lastly, he also announced that Rs 3 crores each will be allotted to the colleges at Pedong and Gorubathan which are under construction. All the 238 vacant posts for Primary teachers will be filled up through open interview. Those candidates who had appeared for the teacher’s interview in 2002 will be given 25% priority.
Meanwhile, in Darjeeling, the GJM General Secretary, Roshan Giri received a letter from the state’s Chief Secretary, Sanjay Mitra, seeking cooperation from the Morcha for continued peace and accelerated development in the Darjeeling hills.
The letter mentions the Tripartite Agreement as a huge historic step towards the restoration of peace and normalcy in the hills. It also highlights that the progress made by the state government in the matter of transfer of its administrative powers to the GTA. Several developmental schemes, with both state and central assistance, have now been initiated and necessary funds are being regularly allotted to the GTA, notifies the letter.
The letter has been forwarded to Gurung in Kalimpong, who is also the GTA Executive Chief. Further decisions will be taken as per the directions of Gurung after he takes heed of the letter, said Giri.
