Kalimpong,22nd July
The
frustrated and angry depositors of the Basil International Ltd
vandalized its Kalimpong unit office situated at DB Giri Road, in
Kalimpong, this afternoon.
It was learnt that for the past several months, the depositors of Basil International Ltd in Kalimpong had been assured on different aspects regarding their deposited amounts and its maturities by their agents and seniors of the chit fund company. At the same time, several sittings had also been arranged by their senior agents regarding their deposited amounts but except assurances nothing surfaced further.
As per the reports, today too, a large number of the depositors gathered at its Kalimpong unit office in connection with their deposited money. Meanwhile, a stir and arguments erupted between the depositors and the present agents there. At the same time, keeping in mind, the worsening situation, the agents of the company reportedly fled from the site and this, frustrated the depositors even more who finally then ransacked the office mainly its windowpanes.
“I deposited the money with so much sacrifices and difficulties but when it is time for the money to mature the agents of the Basil Company only keeps repeating excuses that the money will be given to them in time,” said a depositor Gopal Prasad in Kalimpong.
A police officer said that recently a complaint has been filed in
Kalimpong police against the Basil International Ltd by some agents
regarding the failure of the company.
As per the police sources when the Sharda scam happened a circular was issued by the Government to the agents and representatives of all such chit fund companies in the state to report to the Shyamal Sen Committee. But some seniors of Basil Company might have not reported to the committee as was ordered and might have kept the order in the dark for personal benefits. Hence the situation which has emerged has happened as the Basil senior representatives had kept on continuing with the deposits going against government orders.
