Today two meeting were held by Bal Suraksha Abhiyan Trust, a non-governmental
organization working for child rights and prevention of any form of crime against
children. The main objective of the meeting was to tell the community members
about how they could prevent such crimes against children at their area and
what could be done if such cases occur. Along with that the major reason was to
set up a Child Rights Protection Committee(CRPC), a community based mechanism
where it would function as the ears and eyes of the community and keeps a watch
at what the children in their area are doing and also focus on issues related
to children.
The committees were formed at
Lower Bidyang and Lower Dalapchand guided by Child Release Officer Mr. Tej
Kumar Thapa, Megha Gazmer and Dicky Bhutia other staffs from BSA at Dalapchand
area. 12 members at Lower Dalapchand and 14 members at Lower Bidyang were
selected. These members were from different walks of life like SHG, I.C.D.S
Centre, School teachers and Members of Gram Panchayat.
For each of the committee President
and Secretary were also elected. At Lower Dalapchand, Mr Deepak Chandra Rai
Principal of Mariegold Nursery School was elected as President and Miss Sunita
Tamang member of S.H.G and Gram Panchayat as the secretary. At Lower Bidyang, Mr Sunil Rai was elected as the President and
Mrs Santoshi Pradhan was elected as Secretary. The meeting had an impressing feedback,
all the members appreciated the effort BSA to bring about awareness regarding child
rights, and all the community members also offered a helping hand to BSA.
During the meeting most of the community members also highlighted the problem
at their areas and discussed about the ways of eliminating them.
