'Who Cares' shows loves for street people
HM Reports
Kalimpong,1st Oct
Who Cares”, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) here came on to be a messiah for people living on the streets, some mentally ill and some not even able to speak, on Tuesday as they were cleaned, shaved and fed with foods that surely might have given them a feel of ‘Dashain’ which till date had been a distant festive for them. While some of them are on the roads for their mental illness, many fighting poverty on the streets of this hill town are facing other illnesses. Festival like Dashain comes and goes but for these people the real feel of the festive season never brings cheers to them while cultural extravaganzas, the beat of the Madals, the colorful Phulpati hitting the streets and Marunis ehthralls the other people. Delicious food are not their delicacies and the edibles thrown on the garbage disposal site most of the time makes their lunch and dinner.
The members of the NGO, a Kalimpong based organization Tuesday gathered all these people, both who were able to speak and who could not speak, at Trikone Park with a sole motive to give them the share of this festive season in a first of its kind effort. The NGO representatives cleaned them, shaved their beards, washed them and dressed them. Not only that to give them the feel of Dashain, the members put on them the traditional Nepali Topi and the vermelon made out of the famous ‘Saipatri’ flower which is regarded as the cultural flower for the Gorkhas. Smiles glued on the faces of these people which had not come onto them since years.
“Every one is busy in this world. People have forgotten the insane humanism. Some are busy saving the environment while some of them are busy caring for the faunas.
Under circumstances all people have forgotten to care about people. Who will care for these people?” said Aron Yonzone, the coordinator from Who Cares adding that the NGO in its bid to generate awareness on love people have started caring for these people. “The programme held today was a small effort from us to bring in the awareness,” he added
