Engineers of the Striking Lion Division organized a social welfare event at Mangal Dham Orphanage, Kalimpong. The orphanage runs a hostel which is home to 70 girls and 12 old aged women hailing from remote areas of Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Sikkim. The visit was yet another effort of the Indian Army to reach out to less fortunate and under privileged citizens of the country.

The team organized motivational lectures for the children to motivate them to pursue higher education. The children and the old women were imparted knowledge and tips on health issues and other challenges faced by them.

The troops also distributed gifts and sweets to the children to infuse spirit of Diwali festival amongst them. While staying away from their own children, the troops found the event very fulfilling on getting to celebrate the festival with needy children. Such events not only strengthen civil-military bonds but would also foster sense of social responsibility in the society.
