The River rafting which was functioning since last 20 years is in a verge to shut down after  the construction of Teesta low dam hydel project stage 3 and more dam to be built in future as announce by CM during her Visit in Kalimpong.The Tista River rafting owner association which has been fighting for Compensation by NHPC has now decided to go to an agitation.The member of Association has today cleared that  if they don’t receive the compensation by the authorities within a week period they will stop and want cooperate in nay of the rescue work from next week.

. “We have constantly rescued people, dead bodies and vehicles from the Teesta River which was a personal risk, if we are not provided with any aid or compensation we are likely to stop our rescue work and overlook emergencies within this week” said Suraj Chettri, a member of Teesta River rafting owner association. He also said that they might unanimously start an agitation to protest the matter'

He informed that about 300 people have been getting meal through rafting . We shifted to Malli from Tista after construction of TLDP 3 but now new project has been sanctioned by the State at Malli there will be no place for Rafting .

Meanwhile One of the NHPC official have said that they cant directly compensate anybody.'We have advised them to form a relief and rehabilitation committee comprising the member of rafting administration and NHPC who can look into the demand and then start the process of compensation" he added.
