November 28, 2014: calendar marked few weeks earlier to celebrate the
national reading day titled, One Nation Reading Together 2014;
Saptashree Gyanpeeth today executed the program in the last special
assembly of the year in the presence of 800 approximate students and
teachers.
One
nation reading together is a campaign launched by the Scholastic in the
year 2008. In which the number of participating schools has drastically
increased in the last few years. 900 schools were invited in the year
2011 and over 85,000 books were presented to the underprivileged
children. This year an approximation of 6000 schools were invited to read together where the participating
schools received a kit of reading pledge in Hindi and English along
with two graffiti wall posters and a certificate of participation.
The
event started with the reading of a special pledge written by a well
known author, Amish Tripathi by the school captain and the Vice captain.
One nation reading is also about granting access to books, this year
the nationwide campaign took the cause of the girl child in India with
the punch line-Our Girls Our Pride. And also with the semi tag line ‘A
child’s right to read.’
Foreseeing
the endangering habit of reading by moving along with the evolution of
technology will make students inactive in visiting libraries, believes
the Director of the school-Tapan Pradhan. “Internet and its lament made
the students create a void space between them and books.” Said Pradhan.
However, the students were enthusiastic to mass read the book bought by
them as it was the first time participating and they said it was a new
interesting concept with a smile.
