BSA conducts Stakeholder's Consultation Meeting on HT prevention

A Stakeholders Consultation Meeting was recently
organized by Bal Surkasha Abhiyan Trust for Prevention of Human Trafficking,
Expediting Cross Border Repatriation and Rehabilitation. The meeting which was
held at Sinclairs Hotel & Resort with a
aim to come up with key recommendations for developing Standard
Operating Procedure (SOP) in Expediting Cross Border Repatriation &
Rehabilitation.

Prasad Bhattarai , First Secretary of Consulate General of Nepal was present as
the chief guest of the meeting which saw the participation of NGO’s representative from Kalimpong,
Darjeeling and Siliguri and Duars.
Mr. Dhruba Prasad Bhattarai, First Secretary,
Consulate General of Nepal, Kolkata, expressed his hearty congratulation to BSA
for organising this ‘consultation workshop’ and welcomed local NGO
representatives to share issues related to human trafficking and repatriation
to Nepal.
Informing about the objectives of the workshop by
Sr. Subeshna, Director Bal Suraksha Abhiyan, said "through Stakeholders
Consultation Meet we want to collate key recommendations to develop Standard
Operation Procedure (SOP) for Expediting Cross Border Restoration &
Rehabilitation between NGO’s working in Nepal and India (Darjeeling district,
North Bengal and North East) and Streamlining inter country measures for
prevention and repartition ".
DCPU, Darjeeling, CWC, Darjeeling and thirteen
local NGOs came up with recommendations that
Every Case interlinking with both countries would be notified to Consulate
General Nepal.Following the increase in cases of Human Trafficking in North
Bengal region a Consulate Unit should set up in North Bengal to deal with cases
of human trafficking and due repatriation. To create linkage between Consulate
NGOs of North Bengal and Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Government of
Nepal to converge on issues of human trafficking. Rehabilitation Centre for
Women and Male child should be given priority in border areas. The post
repatriation and follow up to be conducted by CDOs of concerned districts,
Nepal. All this recommendation will be further fine-tuned and presented to
‘Consulate General of Nepal informed Thapa.
Meanwhile speaking to Reporter Dhruba Prasad
Bhattarai , informed that whenever a case come to Consulate General immediately
we forward the matter to concern authority of Nepal for their verification
which takes a long time . We will try to expedite this process by talking to
our higher authority.
