JAP party youth wing have started send memorandum in demand for conducting Panchayat election as declared by the party earlier.JAP Youth wing Secretary Amir Basnet today in a press conference informing that the Youth Wing have taken the responsibility of doing program demanding Panchayat election.lack of panchayats has affected many areas, especially the rural sector where overall development and benefits through panchayat system are yet to reach.

Elections to Panchayat have not been held in the GTA and earlier DGHC region since 2000.

Perhaps Darjeeling is the only region in India, which has been deprived of the most basic governance structure – Panchayats said Naresh Lama President of JAP Youth Wing

Lama said Panchayat areas covered in GTA region is more than that of Municipality area. The lack of panchayats has affected many areas, especially the rural sector where overall development and benefits through panchayat system are yet to reach". From 2005 it is stagnant.


The Party will be sending the memorandum to CM , Governor, Rural development department along with GTA Chief, Principal Secretary and all elected Sabhasad.


We have sought for appointment with GTA Chief and elected representative. GTA act have the demand of holding three tier election but they are afraid of power division once panchayat election are held here said Lama.

He said if they are serious in the matter then why they are not approaching for amendment of constitution when they are a partner of the NDA government.
