JAP seeks info on post landslide relief,rehab work

The youth wing of the Jan Andolan Party has filed a RTI application seeking information regarding the relief and rehabilitation work taken up after last year’s massive landslide that occurred across the Darjeeling hills on the 1st of July 2015.
After the appearances of media reports regarding failure to complete rehabilitation work in several places affected by the landslide, the JAP youth wing today informed media regarding the move.
Amir Basnet,JAP Youth Wing, spokesperson today said that it is very sad that no work have been done to prevent landslides and, thousand of peoples are still living in fear.
He said from Central minister to state and GTA, all visited the affected places after last year’s landslide and gave assurances which has not yet been fulfilled till now.
“When the GTA claims that it has a good relationship with the Central government, then why were they not able to ensure relief and rehabilitation measures?” he asked.
He noted that the Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijuji visited the affected area on 2nd of July 2015 in Mirik and Kalimpong.“So we are seeking
information from the Public Information Officer, the Home Secretary, Ministry
of Home Affairs,Govt. of India, North Block, Central Secretariat.New Delhi regarding the relief and rehabilitation for last year’s massive landslide that occurred across the Darjeeling hills on 1 July 2015, he said.
The party has asked for the full details including the certified copies of the total amount of funds received by the GTA. from the government of India and its agencies to provide relief for the landslide affected people,along with the full details including the certified copies of the funds sanctioned for the relief and the rehabilitation of the families of the affected areas.
Basnet further informed that they have sought full details including the certified
copies of the funds sanctioned for the reconstruction of infrastructure in the areas affected by the landslide, the total amount of funds sanctioned from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the same, the total amount of funds the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration received for the same along with full details of the survey report of the landslide.
He said after receiving information it will be clear as to whose fault it is that relief and rehabilitation measures have not been carried out.
