Jan Andolan Party (JAP) signature campaign on the issue of water crisis in Kalimpong ended here today. The party now eyes a ward level drive in the wake of upcoming hill municipal polls.
The signature campaign had kicked off on 6 November after JAP visited the Public Health Engineering (PHE) water sources at Relli and Thukchuk. The two week long signature campaign had started from Trikone Park and later to different wards and surrounding areas.

JAP Town Committee and youth wing gathered at Trikone Park carrying the
flex that depicts alleged negligence at PHE department works this afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, JAP town committee coordinator Pradeep Chhetri said,“We started the signature campaign after massive water problem gripped the town. Our party went to different wards where the people came and lent their support.Till today noon we have gathered a total of 33,600 signatures.”
He thanked two central committee members of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) namely Norden Lama and Suva Pradhan .
“The people have proved that the drive was instrumental by taking active participation.
“Meanwhile JAP will now focus its attention in different wards.Our party will visit 1, 4, 9,10,11,12 wards under Kalimpong municipality from Thursday onwards. We will visit the ward and ask the problems faced by the residents of respective wards.
“We will ask what the GJMM ruled Kalimpong Municipality has achieved and redressed in the tenure of five years. After gathering information, we will take the issues up in the upcoming municipality polls,” he added.
Meanwhile Mr Chhetri informed that JAP party is closely monitoring the appointment made by municipality alleging that the complaint of nepotism is surfacing.
“JAP will carry the issue if we find it true”,he added.
