GRC reiterate on its Sikkim- Darjeeling inclusion demand

The Gorkha Rashtriya
Congress (GRC) yet again reiterating their demand have insisted on the Sikkim-
Darjeeling unification keeping in mind the language, community, lifestyle,
culture and traditions, thought and geography of the said regions.
The GRC President, Nima
Lama today speaking about the same said that all the above said factors do not
at all match with West Bengal, instead it is similar with the neighbouring
Sikkim. As per the documents and history, the Darjeeling hills belong to Sikkim
and is a part of it, he stressed. Further, highlighting the history behind the
same, Lama said that before the Sikkim- India merger India used to pay some
amount to the King of Sikkim as a rent. Later, many parts of Sikkim further
came under West Bengal.
“Hence, we are working
on the demand to give back Sikkim her lost land”, he added. “We along with the
parties of Sikkim are working on it”, he said.
Further, he notified
that veteran BJP leader, Lal Krishna Advani, Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Rawat and
CPIM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has also affirmed that Darjeeling hills is a
part of Sikkim.
The GRC Chief Convener,
Subodh Pakhrin said that in a democratic country, people’s voice play a major
role, therefore, in the Government should carry forward people’s choice, not
election. “Let us be with our origin”, he concluded.
