MLA Dr Chettri visits landslide hit areas
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, September 15
The Kalimpong MLA Dr
Harka Bahadur Chettri today visited the landslide affected areas and
distributed blankets, sheets and tarpaulin to the victims.
A short meeting was
also conducted between the MLA, Sub Division administration, GREF,
Municipality, Block Development officer which discussed the rehabilitation and
repairs works.
The continuous rainfall
from the last three days which has been recorded around 300 ml has cropped up
severe problems in the Hills. The road leading to Algaraha and other rural places
from Kalimpong has been severely damaged by the overnight rainfall and the vehicles
reaching Algaraha is plying via 11 Mile. A total of 25 families were affected
when landslide near Leprosy hospital premises occurred yesterday night out of
which 5 houses have been shifted to a safer place.
The cracks due to
landslides near 14 mile have posed threat to the houses nearby. The landslide
along the NH 31A under the Kalimpong Sub Division in Setikhola and Kalijhora
halted the traffic nearly for half an hour today. In reality the recorded
rainfall in Kalimpong in the month of September is 800-1000 ml but 300 ml in
just three days has stunned the people.
The incessant rainfall
and the coming of the September 18 has prompt deep amount of fear in the minds
of the people.
