The prolonged demand by the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan (KKS) for initiation of the schemes and benefits under the MGNREGA for the small scale farmers of the hills has finally got the green signal.
The General Secretary of KKS, Vishnu Chettri informing about the same said that the small scale farmers of the hills will now be benefitting from the various schemes under the MGNREGA. After hours of meeting between the KKS and Block Development Officer of Block I, Anandita Bhowmick today, it was assured that the farmers will be delivered the facilities from this year itself. Chettri also mentioned that the Government of India has implemented the schemes for the small scale farmers since 2008, however, the same has not been done in the hills till date.
