Kalimpong, April 13:
A meeting of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) was held at Jagannath Dharamshala under the presidentship of former Congress parliamentarian, Dawa Norbula, today. The meeting discussed and deliberated the issues of the tea estates and its labourers. The union believes that after the establishment of the Labour office in Kalimpong, the issues of the labourers will be solved.
In his address Norbula said that the tea garden owners exploit their workers. There are different laws for tea estates which have not been regulated. Thus, keeping in mind the same, a National Union for Plantation, Kalimpong branch under the auspices of the union was formed today. Tashi lepch, union’s hill zone president, Jeewan Gurung, president of Darjeeling labour Union, Basir Ahmed, Kalimpong president and other were present in the meet.
