After the formation of Lepcha Development Board by the State Government now the Demand for the Formation of Tamang Development Council has hit the street of Kalimpong today.

Tamang Youth Association(TYA) kalimpong committee today organized a Tamang peoples solidarity rally with procession holding placard in hand with thousand of thousands of peoples hit the street of kalimpong town in support of state government development initiative in the hilly regions and demanded immediate creation of Tamang Development Council on the line of Lepcha Development Board.

'The rally is an expression of the popular demand supporting the TDC which will give a distinct development paradigms for the Tamang Tribal Community of West Bengal' said Amit Tamang general secretary of TYA kalimpong sub division who added that it will be a process of inclusive development for integration of Tamang community in the main stream of the country.

The Rally started from town hall on a busy Saturday market day. Thousand of people were on the street shouting slogans for TDC . All were seen in their traditional attire and customs.

The kalimpong Sub division constitute of three community block and a kalimpong municipality where Tamang tribal population constitute a single largest group in entire Sub division informed Tamang. He said that in spite of all the Tamang culture and tradition, custom language and literature has been uncared for generation from the government and non government agencies.Hence forth we want to revive , preserve,protect ,promote and develop our Tamang heritage. Adding he said that Tamang community want to seek alternative livelihood to change their socio-economic status of Our people.

Along with the Formation of Tamang Development Council the People raised their voice for the introduction of Tamang language in Govt. School in West Bengal.

Today Rally was a clear indication that the Tamang wants to manage their own affairs. Amit Tamang said ' we need a government mechanisms in form of Tamang Development Council exclusively for the Tamang Tribal Community.
