GTA elections can never be fair - Khati
MUKESH SHARMA
KALIMPONG, June 28:
Back
again with his set of allegations and complaints, the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha
League (ABGL) Central Committee General Secretary, Pratap Khati today asserted
that the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) which the Gorkha Janmukti
Morcha (GJM) thinks as a great feat is nothing accept the baptism of the
earlier Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC). The politicians here have
acquired seats and much money whereas, the people who have been supporting the
Gorkhaland cause has gained nothing, he added.
Further,
speaking on the forthcoming GTA elections he notified that the election notice
has been issued by the State Hill Affair Ministry and the same will be holding
the elections too. Hence, he complained that in one hand, the Election
Commission conducts the State’s University elections, while in the other only a
Department is given the responsibility to hold such type of important
elections. If the Hill Welfare conducts the elections, then it shall be biased
because the Administration itself is bias, alleged the General Secretary. “The
elections can never be autonomous”, he added.
Likewise,
he questioned, “Why there is no reservation in the GTA elections which is
supposed to be autonomous”. Saying that much drama is being staged, the ABGL
General Secretary charged that differentiation between the Gorkhas and other
communities of Dooars is being created.
Furthermore,
doubting the GJM Delhi tour to be a plan to sell the votes for the Presidential
elections, Khati alleged the GJM, with whom the State Government has done an
agreement, are not at all trustworthy. “They frequently keep on changing their
statements”, he underlined. If the result of the agitation is GTA, then it
would have been better if they would have conducted the DGHC elections.
Lastly,
mentioning that John Barla who was strictly against GJM has now joined hands
with them, General Secretary Khati advocated that no Party in the hills have a
permanent stand, only the ABGL has so. For this Late Madan Tamang had to
sacrifice his life, he added. He also appealed the public to stay alert
regarding the political parties. Finally, he notified that a meeting will be
held between the ABGL and Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) after which the ABGL
shall decide whether they will partake in the GTA elections or not.
