Provision of public toilets, a must for the passengers travelling via NH 31A
MUKESH SHARMA
KALIMPONG, June 03:
In
one hand the country is rapidly progressing towards modernization whereas in
the other the people of rural areas of the country do not even have proper
toilet facilities. One such example is the absence of public toilets in the
National Highway (NH) 31A area which come under the Kalimpong Subdivision. The
local passengers along with the tourists are facing much inconvenience due to this
issue. Only one public toilet caters the need of the people ferrying between
the stretch approximately around 60kms comprising of areas namely, Rangpo,
Melli, Teesta, 29th Mile Rambi and Kali Jhora Sevoke. But there is
no provision of toilets at Kali Jhora Teesta which is much populated. Though
the small line Hotels have toilet provision for their customers still the
passengers traveling this stretch are compelled to go to the nearby jungles and
roadside drains when nature calls.
Tourists
at large number travel this way everyday to visit Darjeeling and neighbouring
Sikkim. So now the big question arises that, does it seem proper that we cannot
even cater the basic need of the tourists? It is high time that the
Administration and the concerned Departments should concentrate on this issue
and find a solution for it as soon as possible.
