Rescue team formed combining Ex-Armies and the GLPs

Following the orders of the GJM
President Bimal Gurung, a rescue operation team combination the ex army and the
GLP from Kalimpong and Darjeeling have been formed.
The team has been formed mainly to
tackle the natural calamities in the Hills following the monsoon. The Chest
Clinic in Kalimpong already had 42 GLPs and is said addition of 20 more from
Darjeeling. A 30 member team has been
constituted as in one time everybody cannot be sent. Leaders Col Ramesh Alley,
Major Warner will be sending the team immediately as per the information
received.
A similar team has been formed at
Darjeeling where the ex army members in collaboration with the sub divisional
officer would worked out. The team has been alert on all the times.
Good news for the GLPs was
encountered recently when the GJM President recently met the Union Home
Minister P Chidambaram and had demanded for the recruitment and
functionalisation of the recruitment of the GLPs in the police and the
paramilitary forces. The Minister on the other hand has hinted positive
assurances. The State Government also can provide recruitment in Group B, C, D
along with the Ecological Protection Battalion which is functional in seven
States as of now.
The Hills also have been demanding
the implemented of the EBF in the State. There are a total of 15, 000 GLPs in
the State till date.
