District Collectorate acting as a King- Sundas
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong,
June 30
CPM
leader Tara Sundas slamming the District Administration today said that the
Government Employees who are the servants of the people have become the master
in the Hills. He stated that the Governmental funds are not meant for filling
the pockets of the few but should be utilized in the larger public interests.
Sundas
informing the press said that that in 2010 the State Government had ordered the
three MLAs and the two MPs of the Hills in 2012, to provide the names of the
economically backward classes for the construction of 1500 houses. Soon after
that the tender notices were displayed in the regional newspapers. In the first
phase of the tender, a total of 765 houses were to be constructed where the CPM
leader Tara Sundas in April had asked the District Magistrate about the
description of the constructing companies and the houses.
After
being informed by the Administration Sundas today mentioned the name of the
constructing companies who have the tender in their name viz Manokamna
Construction in Mirik, Garbo Traders in Kalimpong, CB Pradhan in
Rangli-Rangliat, Moti Construction in Gorubathan, Mahakal Enterprise in Sonada,
Bharatmani Pradhan in Kurseong and Gurung Construction in Poolbazar.
When
asked about the description and the design of the houses to be constructed he
was informed by the Administration that the descriptions were all displayed in
the internet and the newspapers. Sundas commenting on this said that people
residing at the remotest area like Shri Khola Yangmakum cannot come down to Darjeeling
to know about the description of the houses where it takes more than three days
for them to reach here .He also doubted on the only three tender participation
in Mirik, Kurseong and Kalimpong.
Stressing
on the construction companies Sundas questioned on the reaching of them at the remotest
place where the people of the Hills find difficult to.
If the District Administration had sympathy
for the people of the Hills than the tender of the 775 houses to be constructed
in the 92 Gram Panchayats should have been by the Gram Panchayats which could
have provided employment to more than 70 unemployed each from the Gram
Panchayat.
On
the same hand he also said that if the construction of the houses was to be
done by the locals it could have been stronger and better but the companies are
being asked to construct each house at Rs 110000. “It is completely a case of forgery
and the local organizations have to protest it” said Sundas. The District Administration
has to stop issuing the Global tender for ending the phenomena and the tender
of the Gram Panchayat has to be done by the Gram Panchayat. Sundas also said
that the percentage system has been profoundly affecting the lives of the poor
and if it continues so, the party will file case against it. He also said that
the present MLA and the MP should provide the names to the District
Administration after scrutiny. The District Collector has been acting as the
king said Sundas and added that he has asked all the description of the
construction before the Collector.
