“Gorkha Janamukti Morcha is the only party that moved the issue of Gorkhaland from road to the Parliament” said GJM President Bimal Gurung addressing the election campaign meeting at Relly Samthar Constituency today. Addressing the mammoth gathering President Gurung said that the GJM has been successful attaching the word ‘Gorkhaland’ to the GTA and in future the word Gorkhaland shall stand alone. Countering the opposition who tried to black flag the first anniversary of the singing of the GTA agreement; Gurung they are the few opportunists who have handful of supporters. The oppositions who are now voicing for the Gorkhaland were the real rivals of the Gorkhaland movement during the 1986 agitation he added.Pointing the Gorkhaland Task Force, Gurung said the GJM has been successful in carrying the agitation of the last 44 years peacefully where many sacrificed their life, many damaged their health during the hunger strike, the ex-armies were lathi charged. Edifying more he said that the GTA has been a challenge for people of the Hills. Through the GTA, Hills will undergo overall developments and the poor will be upgraded added Gurung.“I will change the entire picture of the Hills” said Gurung slamming the opposition who used to phrase him as stubborn. He appealed the gathering to be conscious and not to be mislead by the rumors, especially to those who fooled and conspired the people during their 21 years of rule in Hills.Elucidating the meeting he also assured to develop the remotest area of the Hills which he had idea and had travelled during the agitation of 1986. The GTA will be administered cautiously and the tempo of the development will be kept up said Gurung.On the other hand the party has been calculating the do’s and don’ts under the GTA
he said and also informed that the GJM will win the rest of the seats as the Trinamool Congress shall decide their participation on the GTA election on July 23.Gurung said that the erstwhile DGHC had one tier of Panchayati Raj system but the GTA shall have three tier system. The funds too are 200 crores compared to that of the DGHC which was 20 crores he informed.The handful of opposition at Damber Chowk cannot bring any changes in the Hills roared Gurung.Gurung also clued-up Sanchabir Subba who has stood against the party as an Independent candidate to decide his decision till Saturday.Gurung also appealed all to be present during the GTA swearing ceremony which will be marked in the presence of the Governor, Home Minister and the Chief Minister.
