Monsoon triggers landslides at various places of Kalimpong
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong,
July 20:
The
consecutive monsoon downpours has triggered landslides at the main road with
links Reli, Khani, Sinjee, Samthar and Suruk further disrupting the road
connectivity. Also the frequent dropping of boulders and mud from the steep
Mandam hill located near Khani Khola has been posing threat to the people along
with the commuters and drivers passing by. This condition has also affected the
Kalimpong town as 30% of the vegetable supply is supplied from this area and the
locals residing in there are dependent on Kalimpong town for their basic
commodities and also they need to frequently visit the head offices situated at
the main town.
Also
the oldest and the perilous landslide zone which is the Likhu Bhir which was
dormant for quite some time has yet again affected by landslide today due to
which the National Highway (NH) 31A was at halt for around half an
hour.
