Centre’s Food Security Bill opposed by Right to Food Campaign Org

MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, October 16:

The West Bengal Right to Food Campaign Organization has opposed the Central Government’s Food Security Bill to be passed during the Winter Session of the Parliament, saying that through this the Centre is trying to depict the world that there are less number of BPL families in India. Such bill will stop all the benefits that the BLP families are receiving till date, they opined.
The Darjeeling district representative of the Organization, Sister Subeshna Thapa today informed that they are holding different programmes at 12 districts of the State from 2nd to 16th. Apart from Darjeeling district, the Organization has already conducted programmes opposing the same at 11 districts of the State, she told. Looking at the political scenario of the hills, all the 3 MLAs, district officials, sub divisional offiers, officials of the Food Supply department, country’s Prime Minister, Centre’s Food Minister and the State’s Chief Minister have been forwarded a copy of the signature campaign which lists various issues regarding the same.
The Organization who claims to work for the rights of the BPL families, stress that the rights of these families should be delivered properly, instead of distributing as a favor.
“The Indian Constitution has given the liberty to live, there are BLP families, there are ration cards, but, there is no ration”, she underlined. Further, mentioning that rations are distributed 4 times a month, she questioned that if a family totally depends only on this ration, then how will they survive when their ration goes out of stock? The administration is staying put still after the order of the Supreme Court, she added.
Lastly, she also appealed every individual to support their cause and oppose the bill.
