Kalimpong pays last tribute to its Police officer

Clouds of grief and sadness hovered over Kalimpong today as its public paid last tribute to their much love Police officer, Shiv Sagar Chettri, who fell victim to the Geil Khola road mishap on September 29, 2012.
The Rambi Police In-charge’s body, after post mortem was taken to its residence at Mangal Dara where scores of people reached to join the bereaved family in their moment of sorrow. After the last rites, the body was taken to Mela Ground via encircling the town to deliver the Guard of Honor.
Enveloped with the tricolor Chettri’s bier received the Guard of Honor during which the GJM President Bimal Gurung’s condolence message was read aloud. The Darjeeling District Police Superintendent, Kunal Agarwal also paid homage to the brave officer. The Kalimpong ASP, Songmit Lepcha, Thana In-charge, Prasad Pradhan, Than OC, Sherap Lepcha, Traffic OC, Praveen Gurung, members of the Bar Association, School Principals, teachers, students, members of the Drivers Union, members of the political parties and public at large were also present.
After the Honor, the body was then taken to the crematory at Labar Botey beside River Teesta where Chettri’s son performed the religious rites before the cremation.
Chettri joined the Police Department in 1988 as a Constable and in 1997 he got promoted to SI. He served the Police posts at Jalpaiguri, Malda and different areas of the Darjeeling hills.
