The State’s Jail
Minister, Shanker Chakraborty and the members of the State’s Home and Jail
Standing Committee, who were in Darjeeling, reached Kalimpong on Thursday
night. They visited various places of Kalimpong today.The faction started the
day’s tour from Delo and discussed number of issues pertaining to the town.
Further, they made a visit to Kalimpong Thana where they were acquainted about
various issues of the Thana by the Thana In-charge, Prasad Pradhan and
Kalimpong ASP, Songmit Lepcha. Further, they also inspected the FI and ICP
office situated near the Thana. Built in the year 1927, the old structure has
incurred damages during last year’s earthquake. The Police also notified the
faction about the deteriorated condition of the Police Quarters located behind
the said office. The group further moved towards Kalimpong Jail and met with
the inmates over there. At the Sub Divisional Office, they visited the ASP
Office and the nursery.Dr Harka Bahadur
Chettri who is also the member of the said committee was also present along
with other members namely, Bilab Mitra, Mumtaz Begum and Julfikar Malla. After
the visits, member Bilab Mitra said that all the offices are in a bad
condition. Thus, the committee keeping this in mind directed the concerned
officials of the respective offices to address a letter to the Minister for
shifting of the offices at safe places. They assured the officials that they
will be forwarding the letter and bring the places under the notice of the
concerned Minister and the CM.
The Jail Minister, who
in the town for the second time informed that discussions are going on in order
to shift the Kalimpong Jail.
