Kalimpong, December 19
The Kalimpong municipality has passed strict orders not to dump any waste materials in the river Teesta. Prior, the municipality used to dump all the waste of the Kalimpong town in the river.
The Kalimpong municipality vice-president Ganga Maya Gurung talking today said that the waste materials are not being well swept away by the river because of the cut in the water level by the hydro power projects.
The municipality will dump the wastes to a proxy place till the construction of a new dumping zone. The municipality had designed of a treatment plan under the German project at Chest clinic which is akin to that of the Pune city, but criticisms surrounded before its construction she informed.
The residents of the Chest Clinic had appealed the municipality not to construct the same in their area because of the several issues. The project cannot be established until and unless it gets support from the public she added. She also informed that they have been constantly sensitizing the residents on the project but still consensus has not been made.
