22nd foundation day of Lepcha Culture & Heritage organized

The 22nd foundation day of the Lepcha Culture & Heritage was today observed at the Mani Gumba playground at 11th mile, Kalimpong. It was organized by the Mayel Kyoung Shajom Maney Gumba.
The day saw unique display of the Lepcha traditional religious books, items made out of bamboo, tools for hunting and etc. The gathering mostly the youths witnessed the rich ritual of the Lepcha marriage through a play. The Gumba will also be made a tourist spot as it dates back to more than 300 years back; it also reflects the works of the people of the place. The sale of the handicrafts will also boost the living standard of the people is learnt.
The ILTA president LM Tamsang, secretary PT Lepcha, assistant secretary NT Lepcha, Padma Shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha were present. The main aim of the celebration was to preserve the rich heritage of the Lepchas.
