Meeting of the Lepchas held

MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, January 02:

The Lepcha elderly people held a meeting at Town Hall today. Lepchas from different parts of the state except from Darjeeling attended the meet. The Lepcha Development Council (LDC), which recently got green signal, was highly discussed. Only last month, the GTA kept forward a resolution insisting that instead of Council it should be a Board. This was also discussed at length during the meet.
NT Lepcha from Lepcha organization said that the LDC is for the overall development of the Lepchas. It is important for the development of the community, culture, language, its economy and education. He said that they do not have any issues with the GTA’s resolution. If every community forms its own council, it is good, he added. It was also decided during the meet that the Lepcha associations and organizations will be discussing the matter of council and board with the GTA heads and the State. Further decisions will be taken after the meet.
