The condition of NH31 A is worsening day by day. The ongoing road widening work is underway at full swing. The road widening process from Baghpool till Birik Dara, which is 20-25 kms long, adds woe to the worry. The cutting works at this place is producing dust further polluting the air. The drivers along with the commuters are facing issues due to the dust. Craters have also developed at various places where the widening works are taking place. The way is filled with dust, boulders and stone chips. The work is also hampering the traffic. Normally it takes 2 to 2 ½ hours to reach Siliguri from Kalimpong, but the road conditions prolong the journey up till 4 hours nowadays. Till how long the commuters and the drivers have to face this issue, nobody knows.
