KKKS focusing mainly on irrigation

The central government helps towards the development of the agriculture sector under the Rural Development Fund. Schemes are prepared in district level for irrigation, roads, etc, which are later implemented. Speaking about the same, the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan (KKKS), General Secretary, Vishnu Chettri informed that the implementation works of the schemes has been giver to the KKKS for the year 2013-14. Under the same, the schemes will be given out to those who are in need of it. Chettri said that the KKKS will be focusing mainly on irrigation as only 6% of land gets irrigated. “If the irrigation gets better then the crop production will increase,” said Chettri.
13 irrigational schemes from Kalimpong, 5 from Takdah, 6 from Algarah, 11 from Bijanbari, 2 from Kurseong, 2 from Gorubathan and 3 from Sukhia has been sent. Likewise for link road scheme 7 from Kalimpong, 7 from Algarah, 5 from Takdah, 14 from Bijanbari, 2 from Gorubathan, 2 from Sukhia and 2 from Kurseong have been sent.
