Kalimpong, March 15:
The CPM regional committee secretary, Tara Sundas has demanded that the banks located in the hills should provide educational loan to those students who pass class twelve and who belong to poor families.
As per Sundas, the Human Resource Development Ministry, Government of India, had issued a notification, wherein it was mentioned that the students belonging to poor families will be given an education loan up to Rs 4.5 lakhs for their higher studies. The notification has also been accepted by the All India Bank. But, Sundas has alleged that the banks in the hills are not following the notification and the students here are deprived of the facility. He said that the banks need to give interest free loans to those students who have passed class twelve. Thus, Sundas has demanded that the banks in the hills should make provisions for the same as soon as possible. Regarding the same, the CPM leader also submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional officer, LN Sherpa. Urging the NGOS of the hills to take up the issue, Sundas also appealed all the educational institutions to take heed of the matter.
