Cymbidium Orchid Park inaugurated

The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) executive chief, Bimal Gurung today inaugurated the Cymbidium Orchid Park at Mungpoo today. The park has been established under the centre’s Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and is supervised by the Mungpoo Cinchona Directorate. Under the same scheme along with cinchona, cymbidium farming has been initiated at various places of Mungpoo. Under the leadership of the department’s director, Dr GC Subba, around 40,000 orchid farming is being done since last 2 years under the Ministry of Agriculture.
Realizing the favorable weather and geographical conditions of the Darjeeling hills for cymbidium farming, 7 acres of land of Mungpoo Rungbee Department is being utilized for the same.
After inaugurating the park Gurung also inspected it. The inauguration ceremony was held under the presidentship of Bidhur Karki. Gurung was accompanied by Col Ramesh Allay, MLA Dr Rohit Sharma, LB Pariyar, sabhasad Samuel Gurung and others. After inspecting the park, the delegates also visited the nearby tourist spots. Gurung directed the Tourism department to conduct survey of the park.
